LOS BANOS TALK

On February 16, 2021 at approximately 5:20 PM, The Los Banos Police Department Gang Unit was on patrol in the area of 7th and Pacheco Boulevard. The officers observed a Ford Mustang traveling east with a damaged windshield and expired registration.

Officers stopped the vehicle in the 900 block of Pacheco Boulevard and made contact with the driver, 26-year-old Ruben Navarro Rodriguez, of Dos Palos.

During the stop, the officers noticed a methamphetamine smoking pipe on the floorboard of the vehicle. Officers removed Rodriguez from the vehicle and attempted to arrest him, but he ran away. The officers immediately pursued Rodriguez of foot and after a short chase, the officers caught Rodriguez. Rodriguez struggled and resisted the officers, and as the officers were attempting to gain control of him, they noticed he had a loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine concealed on his person.

Rodriguez would not comply with officers orders to stop resisting arrest and so the Officers felt they needed to use a taser device in order subdue and cuff him.

Rodriguez was booked into the Los Banos Police Department jail charged with resisting arrest, possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle, possession of a loaded firearm and resisting arrest with violence. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
